We welcome you to Government Polytechnic, Barauni. The Government of Bihar established this institute in 1964 to supply trained technical manpower to the industries that had come up around Barauni. The overall goal of the institute is to produce diploma engineers who are competent in their subject, ready to work in industry on graduation, and aware of their obligations to society. We offer diploma programmes in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Fire Technology and Safety. Each programme is taught by a dedicated faculty and supported by laboratories and workshops that meet the requirements of the curriculum. Our location in the Barauni industrial belt gives students direct access to industrial visits, in-plant training and interaction with practising engineers. Our approach to technical education has three parts. First, we treat practical training as equal in importance to classroom teaching, so that students learn to apply what they are taught. Second, we expect students to acquire the discipline, communication skills and habit of teamwork that industry looks for in a diploma engineer. Third, we keep in regular contact with the industries around us, so that our teaching reflects current practice. The measure of a polytechnic is what its graduates can do. Our alumni work in public sector undertakings, private industry and government departments across the country, and a number have started enterprises of their own. Many have gone on to degree programmes. We regard this record as the clearest evidence of the institute's contribution, and we are working to improve upon it.
